Here’s a new band called Hellsmoke coming out of Sweden who absolutely live up to their band name! This is smokin’ metal done Swedish style but with a Southern slant, think Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society crossed with the technical prowess of Sons Of Apollo and you might land somewhere close to the target.
The band membership come from a cross section of Swedish bands including: Alyson Avenue, Bai Bang, Cloudscape, Syron Vanes, Darkane and Alicate, all pretty decent outfits in their own right, but they’ve found a very potent musical brew with Hellsmoke it would seem.
The Songs
The twin guitars are thickened wedges of six string steel, the whole thing a meaty slab of HM with a sound and subject matter straight out of the Badlands. These guys could give a band like Texas Hippie Coalition a run for their money judging by their efforts here.
Hellsmoke maybe European, but this is as American Southern rock/metal as it gets. Brutality is evident from the get-go with ‘Devil’s Train’ rolling through with tonnes of power. Heavy chugging guitars dominate ‘Black Sun Rising’ and the totally outrageous ‘Hell Adrenaline’ which surely must be Motorhead on speed. Just for the hell of it, ‘Bad Motorbreath’ sounds like the ultimate road song. Where’s my bottle of JD?

Fans of modern southern metal will definitely get a kick out of this Hellsmoke debut! Release Date: 16 Oct 2020.
