Lionheart are the British band that has been around since the early 80’s, but their lineup is vastly different than what it was from those days. Off the map for decades, Lionheart returned in 2013, and released the very good ‘Second Nature’ in 2017 on AOR Heaven. Here they now are on the German label Metalville, and it’s full of new tunes, a heap of them actually, 13, though really only 12 as the first trackball – vocals * is a 0.55 second prelude.
The Songs
The new Lionheart album has seen guitarist Steve Mann undertake production duties, and he does a fine job too by the sounds of it. Just about everything here gets a pass mark. From the expansive ‘Thine Is The Kingdom’ to the melancholy ‘Still It Rains On Planet Earth’. My standouts include the full-on melodic rock drama of ‘All I Want Is You’, plus the change-up of ‘Overdrive’ which could be Survivor on another day. There are other tracks to explore, but that’s your job – to listen for yourself.
In Summary
If someone is wanting to familiarise themselves with modern-day melodic rock, then Lionheart should be highly recommended. Pretty damn good, reliable on all fronts.
