Station Background

New York band Station have been regular attendees at GDM Towers since their 2013 arrival onto the public stage. We last looked at these guys on 2022’s release ‘Perspective’. If our ears are suggesting anything, it seems like the band have heavied things up a touch.

I’ve always enjoyed their albums, the quartet always manage to draw you in with their brand of hard rock. There’s no pretense here nor anything fluffy. It’s just reinvented hair metal in the modern era with an 80’s flavor keeping one foot in the past. And that’s how many of us like it.

The Songs

‘Over & Over’ is a full on guitar driven rocker, all the basics are there. The highlight was Patrick Kearney’s vocal sustain at the end. Wow, that was impressive.

‘If You Want Me To’ reminds me slightly of H.E.A.T‘s’ Keep On Dreaming’ as per the guitar riff. However, this track is a bit heavier than the Swede’s all out AOR assault. But you get the idea.

There’s more crashing riffs from Chris Lane on ‘A Little Bit Of Love’. The guitar pattern/motif is maintained throughout and is the glue holding it together.

‘Close My Eyes’ reverts to a punchier sound, and could pass as an American version of British band Vega.

The tempo slows down for the moody ‘Touch’. It’s still electric, no acoustic parts, so it could be construed as a power ballad I guess.

‘Locked Away’ lives in a melodic rock bubble during verse time. However, things heavies up when the choruses arrive. I quite enjoyed this, again Kearney’s vocals are very good.

‘No Reason’ is the albums change-up moment. The jangly acoustic parts transitions to big electric riffs throughout. I’m hearing a hint of Tesla on this track.

‘Something In Between’ changes direction, a brooding tune with a melodic emphasis on minor chords. Very cool track. ‘Better Off Alone’ returns to Station’s template of racy melodic hard rock. The vocal harmonies are a standout on this album highlight.

‘Around The Sound’ is another reminder of the fun-filled daze of the 80’s. You certainly don’t hear this type of music on the radio anymore. Station finish up with the self titled ballad ‘And Time Goes On’. Patrick again delivers some awe inspiring vocal work.

In Summary

The production was handled by guitarist Chris Lane. All the tracks mostly range between 3 and a half to 5 and a half minutes. ‘And Time Goes On’ is a very listenable album and fits like a glove for this website. Tailor made most definitely.

Station are building a terrific portfolio of their work which is now a decade old. I guess they can’t be considered a new band anymore. All they need is a couple of high profile gigs to further their already solid reputation and for more listeners to find them on the Net. Go to it.
