Background

I”ve always had a soft spot for the Steel Breeze debut. A nice slice of early 80’s rock that still sounds good while driving in my car with the windows down on a hot summer day.

For years I thought Steel Breeze were just another band that despite having a hit single ‘You Don’t Want Me Anymore’, ended up on the wrong side of management, perhaps a bad contract or the old stand by – ‘musical differences’.

The Songs

Whatever happened way back when, it was a pleasant surprise to find Steel Breeze were still active in the 90’s and got around to releasing a couple CD’s. Unfortunately, the results on this disc are not that impressive.

‘Still Warriors’ is a rather lackluster affair, far removed from the pop rock/ AOR mix of the debut which shouldn’t be surprising considering none of the members of the original band are present on this disc.

There is some good material here including the beautiful ‘Love Can Tell’ which crosses Tears For Fears with Bruce Hornsby & The Range, but ‘Still Warriors’ fails to deliver on the promise of the debut or the belated issue of ‘Heart On The Line’ with Kevin Chalfant on vocals.

In Summary

I really wanted to like this and I remember seeing Steel Breeze on the legendary ‘Solid Gold’ TV show lip synching to ‘You Don’t Want Me Anymore’ thinking ‘this band will be huge’. I was so wrong.
