Background
Not a lot is known about this Dutch artist who by the looks of things released just this one album. Recorded in December 1990, ‘Take Me High’ saw a CD release in early 1991. The album had passed down through the ranks of early 90’s tape traders (of that I recall) promoting a hi-tech meets pop rock fusion recalling many artists on this website, from Beau Heart through to Franz Benton.
The Songs
From the outset, the album has a nice sound to it. All of the electronic instruments seem to phase in and out with ease, though you do have to look hard for any sign of guitars as the sax and trumpet tend to feature more often than not on the solo spots. One of the exceptions would be ‘Price Of Love’ where the appearance of a guitar solo was most welcome. The rest of the album was a hard listen, as the keyboards dominated the arrangements which made this an album lacking warmth and organic appeal.
In Summary
Listening to this many decades later, it’s a very lightweight affair, and though I enjoy the hi-tech genre quite a lot, ‘Take Me High’ was just far too bland and digital. If you want to listen to something with a bit more zing from the same year and same country, I’d recommend Beyond The Blue instead.
