Tilt – Music

From Detroit, Tilt’s sound is definitely period 70’s hard rock, where bands such as Fortress, Doc Holliday, and on their quieter moments Trillion (without the pomp tendencies) all spring to mind.

Tilt Background

Here’s one out of left field, or Detroit Michigan to be exact. Tilt released one album as far as I’m aware, titled ‘Music’.

It’s a good piece of collectible history and probably found on vinyl in obscure little record shops scattered around America. I found mine in New Zealand so someone’s done me a favour.

Of the band members, only Doug Kahan has any sort of history. He’s played with Flash Kahan and more recently DC Drive (with members of Detroit AORsters Adrenalin).

Tilt’s sound is definitely period 70’s hard rock. Bands like Fortress, Doc Holliday, and on their quieter moments Trillion (without the pomp tendencies) all spring to mind. The band were signed to Parachute Records, which was a Casablanca Records subsidiary.

The Songs

The opener ‘Baby Do You Like It’ has some unnervingly similar rhythm guitar lines to Carlos Cavazo. Refer his pre Quiet Riot days with L.A band Snow. This is a great intro as this one really rocks!

‘Get It Again’ is a song tailormade for Bruce Brookshire (Doc Holliday) as this is as vocally gruff as it gets. Sort of rough hewed southern flavoured rock. The brakes go on with ‘You’re Just What I’ve Been Looking For’. It’s a piano based ditty which has a Trillion (first album) flavour to it.

Mid west rock ‘n’ roll is the order of the day with ‘Do You Rock And Roll’ and it ain’t too far removed from 70’s era Head East. Another great track is the pomp sounding ‘Indigo’, again Trillion is used as a reference point. On the other hand ‘Bloody Murder’ is a psychedelic romp from the 60’s, such is the predominant organ work going on in the background.

In Summary

Again, like many albums reviewed on the site, Tilt are one for collectors only, and I know there are a few of you here.
