Background

One of the better hair-metal exponents were North Carolina’s Firehouse. Those first three albums of theirs were pretty good, the debut in particular as we know, did great things in 1990-1991. Migrating through the grunge era was one thing, but coming out the other end was always going to be rough. Perhaps anticipating some consumer lash-back, Firehouse instead ventured into 1996 with an acoustic-semi-unplugged CD.

The Songs

I’ll say this, when I want to listen to some acoustic stuff, I know who to turn to, and Firehouse ain’t it. However, coming from the Carolina’s, the band members will probably have been bought up on some southern sounding acoustics, so that should come as no surprise. The cover of the Eagles ‘Seven Bridges Road’ (I know, not an Eagles original, it was written by someone else), sounds pretty good. Firehouse contributed three new songs, plus acoustic versions of their biggest hits such as ‘Don’t Treat Me Bad’, ‘Love Of A Lifetime’ and ‘When I Look Into Your Eyes’.

In Summary

The band were probably piggy-backing onto the Unplugged movement which was occurring during the 90’s. Both a wise career and financial move, all things considered. I have all the Firehouse albums, but I think I prefer the hard rocking sets from 1990 to 1992.
