World Trade Background
At the time of writing, Los Angeles band World Trade are set for a 2017 resurrection. As a timely reminder, I thought it would be a good thing to revisit their 1995 album ‘Euphoria.
Of course the band membership took its origins from the mid 80’s prog band Lodgic and melodic rockers Stone Fury. Plus there have been side-chained outfits including The Key, Circa and Unruly Child.
1995 wasn’t the best year for melodic rock. But if you were participating in the crossover prog genres, then kudos to you. It appears as if this sub-genre appeared to sprout wings through this time frame.
Some six years after their major label debut, World Trade appeared on the prog-specialist label Magna Carta for the second CD ‘Euphoria, which also featured Yes alumni, the late Chris Squire.
The Songs
The material here from World Trade is very fluid and flowing. It’s a true prog release, unlike the commercial offering of its predecessor.
I enjoyed the fast-paced ‘Golden Age’, ‘In Your Mind’ and the changeable ‘Wheels Of Life’ which reminded me of U.K.
But other than that, the remainder of the album’s songwriting and arrangements left me in no-man’s land.
In Summary
Only certifiable prog fans will get this, the majority of the rest of us, won’t.
