Ted Nugent – Weekend Warriors

I’m not a fan of Ted Nugent’s politics, nor his gun stance affiliated with the NRA, and ‘Weekend Warriors’ is probably not the best Nugent album of the 70’s, I think his 1975 debut takes that award.

Background

I’m not a fan of this blokes politics, nor his gun stance affiliated with the NRA. But you can’t deny the success he had during the 70’s. ‘Weekend Warriors’ first appeared decades ago, way back in my high school days.

I’ll admit, I bought the records but was never completely sold on his studio albums. I much preferred his live albums instead. Of course there were the rather cool album covers too, with guns to the fore even that far back.

The Songs

During 1978, Nugent released two albums, the first being the double live LP ‘Double Live Gonzo.’ which was released at the start of the year, while ‘Weekend Warriors’ followed up in September.

New recruit Charlie Huhn took over from Derek St Holmes, who had departed earlier in the year to focus on his new project St Paradise, while bassist Rob Grange also pulled the plug, his place taken by David Hull. ‘Weekend Warriors’ wasn’t particularly strong in memorable songs, with only ‘Need You Bad’ being the single taken from the LP.

In Summary

Ted Nugent continued to draw large arena audiences with an assortment of support bands including Angel (support during early 1979), plus Starz, AC/DC and Cheap Trick among others during 1978. Probably not the best Nugent album of the 70’s, I think his 1975 debut takes that award.
