Tom Satin’s ‘Appetition’ will certainly hit the sweet spot for some of the readers here, the music dabblig in that pop rock meets AOR crossover style.

Background

Norwegian rocker Tom Satin (a.k.a Tommy Nilsen) impressed me mightily on his previous album ‘It’s About Time’ which we reviewed back in 2017. He is Norway’s answer to Aldo Nova or even Dion Bayman in the one man does it all category. Five years on, and Tom is now signed to the Italian label Art Of Melody Music/Burning Minds Group. So let’s see how he has developed.

The Songs

Actually, I’m hearing a lot of similarity to the aforementioned Dion Bayman, but mostly it’s all out electric attack delivered in a pop rock package. Not too rough but then not too smooth either. Hearing songs like ‘Going Your Way’ and ‘Everybody Needs To Be Loved’ could be considered album highlights.

‘Waiting For Another Man’ and ‘Fight Again’ are both decent too. The album features three tracks in a lesser tempo including ‘Angels Come Angels Go’, ‘A Dream Come True’ and ‘Jenny (I’m Bringing You Down)’ which does start off slow but improves especially with a harmonious chorus. ‘Looking At You’ with its shuffly backbeat didn’t quite hit the mark even if it’s mostly inoffensive pop rock.

In Summary

Tom Satin’s ‘Appetition’ will certainly hit the sweet spot for some of the readers here, the music has the same aura of past artists that dabbled in that pop rock meets AOR crossover style, though I didn’t find this collection as good as the prior album. A record like this is probably more at home on the American heartland than the chilly North of Norway, but I’ll take it for what it’s worth.
