Background
Here’s an indie artist leading a three-piece out of Nashville, that is both very hard-rocking and bluesy in the same breath. Jax Hollow must be doing something right as she has talismanic German producer Michael Wagener in her corner (who now resides in Nashville), plus Peter Baltes of Accept who guests on bass for two tracks.
Joining Jax are two very accomplished musicians in Leilani Kilgore and Angela Lese, both have very impressive resumes, so all in all, a trio with stacks of talent. It’s just the seven tracks, recorded and released in 2020 and only now making some waves out there on the Interwebs during early 2021.

[L-R] Leilani Kilgore, Jax Hollow, Angela Lese
The Songs
The main track is the opening ‘High Class Bitch’, a smokin’ tune that oozes attitude and features a heap of guitar fills on what is a raucous introduction. ‘Rebound’ is just the coolest of tunes with a sweet lead vocal and an equally appetizing chorus. Nice work ladies.
‘Say My Name’ is the first change-up moment, the tempo is up, the arrangement somewhere between the Charlie Daniels Band and
Motorhead. Strange but true. You gotta hear it to believe it. ‘Drift Together’ returns to acoustic territory, and is a windswept rock ballad, this one has radio appeal I reckon.
‘Wanted Woman’ pulls a few tricks out of the southern rock playbook, a sassy rocker that combines southern fried picking with big vocals and a boatload of melody. You can’t have an album like this without mentioning a car, ’52 Pickup’ is that song. The guitar solo is fiery as heck, that girl can surely play.
Completing the album, ‘Breathe’ is more of a melodic hard rock outing, no sign of blues or southern rock. The vocal is (as per the song title) sung in a near breathy whisper. It makes for a good contrast when compared to the preceding six tracks.
In Summary
Jax Hollow has been described in the press as a rock revivalist, not that rock music has ever been away but I would agree it needs a kick up the behind from time to time. Perhaps this is one of those occasions? A nice little find, it gets a Glory Daze recommendation.
