Background
At the time of writing this review (2001), ‘Somewhere Lost In Time’ has been out for two years now but it has only been in the past couple of months that I’ve gotten my hands on it, so my apologies to Danny Danzi. Having seen Danny play live at Z-Rock 2000 it is great to finally have this album as he completely blew me away in Wigan. Talent can be associated with many artists but genius applies to only a few. Danny is in the latter category.
A wonderfully gifted musician Danny Danzi has caused a real stir with this release and it’s no wonder. Taking his influences from Van Halen, Dokken, Yngwie Malmsteen but to name a few, Danny has turned out a great example of pumping melodic hard rock that any of the aforementioned acts would be proud of.
The Songs
Danny has said himself that he will be an 80’s man forever so it comes as no surprise that ‘Somewhere Lost In Time’ takes you back a few years with mega catchy choruses and super melodic soloing. Wherever you turn, the quality keeps coming, especially from ‘Lost Without Your Love’ with its smouldering intro, ‘Dreams’ which is classic lighters- in-the-air stuff and the Rox Diamond-ish ‘Is Love A Lie’.
In Summary
Danny Danzi must also be commended for performing 99% of the instrumentation himself. A slightly better mix would have given the package an extra edge but as a whole he has done a fine job and the end product is a top class slab of 80’s style melodic hard rock. Keep an eye out for an upcoming interview with Danny discussing both this and his upcoming album.
