Background
They’ve been out of the public eye for six years, and they’ve been surely missed. Finland’s prime AOR outfit Brother Firetribe know how to turn the dial, and ‘Diamond In The Firepit’ is no exception. With Nightwish taking some time off, it was time for Emppu Vuorinen to turn the attention back to BFT once again. The songs on this new set are hook-filled anthems, not heard.. well, since the last Brother Firetribe album!
The Songs
The songs which stand out for me are the power opener ‘Love Is Not Enough’ and the song which provided the first video ‘For Better Or For Worse’. My personal highlight is the immense ‘Hanging By A Thread’, a subtle track with a killer chorus that goes to the top of the class.
‘Trail Of Tears’ follows close by, a racy affair with synths and guitars taking unison to a whole new level. BFT cover The Magnificent‘s ‘Tired Of Dreaming’, but in fairness, it’s pretty hard to get close to the original, particularly the rather awesome vocal of Michael Eriksen.
In Summary
I don’t believe there is any variation to what we’ve heard previously with BFT. The long time away has meant that other bands in this sub-genre are more prominent. We’re talking H.E.A.T, The Magnificent, SunStrike and bands of that stature. Still, this is a classy affair, but is probably a touch behind some other contenders in 2014. Great to see them back nonetheless.
